Allison Rykken

Allison (she/her) is a licensed social worker and spiritual director. She obtained her masters in Leadership and Spiritual Direction from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities – an ecumenical seminary rooted in interreligious discipline, progressive theological thought, and dismantling systems of oppression. Allison has a white Christian background and has studied and worked diligently to understand both the harm and beauty that white Christianity has caused across time, space and culture, both to her own people and to others. 

While Allison works with everybody, she specializes in working with those who have experienced ‘church hurt’ – those with a Christian background seeking a personal spiritual identity. Allison also especially enjoys working with parents. She sees parenting as rich and fertile soil for spiritual growth, both for parents and their children.   

Values

Above all, Allison values human sovereignty. We are who we are. We love who we love. Allison believes it is an inherent right for all beings to be free in their body, mind, identity, expression, and spirit. Allison stands for safe and sacred spaces for all people.

She values accessibility, equity and community care, and is committed to continued self-growth as she too, is an ever-evolving human being. 

Allison values curiosity as the antidote to judgement and is in continual practice with this in her work and life. 

She is an ally to the LGBTQ+ communities, and is a support to AA and recovering communities. 

Allison is committed to anti-racist work, both in her personal life and in how she raises her children. 

Spiritual Companionship

While everyone at Anam Cara practices spiritual companionship in their work, Allison provides space for spiritually specific seeking. She meets with clients on a monthly basis for 1-1.5 hours. Her services are self-pay with sliding scale options. She is available to meet in person at Anam Cara Therapies in Minneapolis, or online.
